据马新社消息，马来西亚农业和食品行业部长 Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah 表示，2016年以来，马来西亚榴莲的出口总额增长了107%，约7480万令吉 (人民币1.16亿元)。
Ahmad 介绍说，2016年马来西亚榴莲出口总额为6990万令吉，2017年为5900万令吉，2018年为1.249亿令吉，2019年为1.27亿令吉，2020年为1.447亿令吉。
截至2020年9月，马来西亚榴莲成功出口到22个国家和地区。从2020年出口数据来看，排前五的依次是香港、中国内地、新加坡、美国和澳大利亚。其中香港消费马来西亚榴莲最多，共计价值5752万令吉 (人民币8920万元)，约占马来西亚榴莲出口总额的39.8%。
根据跨国种植和农场管理公司 Plantations International 一份榴莲行业市场报告的分析，香港进口的榴莲90%以上都用于再出口，大部分可能销往中国内地。
Ahmad 表示，“政府没有对出口到国外的榴莲征收任何形式的出口税，因为政府希望帮助本国榴莲在出口市场保持竞争力，快速增长，并与其他国家尤其是泰国榴莲进行竞争。预计马来西亚榴莲出口市场未来仍将继续保持快速增长。

尽管马来西亚榴莲出口增长迅速，泰国依旧占据了全球榴莲出口份额的90%以上。预计到2030年，全球榴莲贸易额将有望达到350亿美元以上。
