2000年初期，火龙果被引进大马进行商业化种植，红肉火龙果即是被采用的重要品种并且良好地生长于本地种植环境。火龙果下种一年即开给产果。一项研究试验采用堆肥每柱子每年施放6公斤与12公斤再分別加上1.2公斤与1.8公斤/柱/年的化学参肥 N/P/K/Mg (9.6/4.8/17.6/2.4) 以探讨何种施放法帶來最佳效益。6个月后至两年的各组合产量成果被记录下來。
结果显示12公斤堆肥与1.2公斤及1.8公斤滲肥帶來最高的累积产量，分别记录着每柱子年产24.5及24.2公斤。6公斤堆肥与同份量參肥施放的组合却分别只造就每柱子每年20.7及20.8公斤的产量。每柱子每年单独施放12公斤的堆肥的总产量及平均果重依旧可以和施放參肥组比，但每年每柱子若只单独施放6公斤堆肥就面对养分不足现象，果量不只减少，平均果重也下降。
