在沙巴州，种于 Kumansi 系列土壤的15年树龄油棕曾进行过一项为期8年的氮磷钾研究试验，结果显示，8年的平均鲜果串产量、平均果串重量及每棵树果串重量明显地受到磷肥的影响，而钾肥则只影响平均果串重量。在这些方面，8年里氮肥的施放则没有产生重要的影响。这试验成果显示，将一般上3公斤/棵/年的磷肥 (CIRP) 用量提高到6公斤/棵/年把鲜果串提升了11.38%或相等于1.9吨/公顷/年。这数据说明在某些土质及情况下，磷肥具有增产的重要地位，而钾肥的作用则限于增加平均果串重量。换言之，当园里油棕产量停滞不前可能与磷肥不足有关了。
